Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Sub-district LGD Code?

A Sub-district Local Government Directory (LGD) code is a unique permanent identifier assigned to every revenue sub-district — called Tehsil in Rajasthan, MP; Taluka in Gujarat, Maharashtra; Mandal in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana — by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India.

How to find Sub-district LGD Code district-wise?

Use this free tool: (1) Select your State from the first dropdown. All revenue districts of that state appear instantly in the table below. (2) Click on a district name or 'View Details' button to see all sub-districts with their LGD codes. (3) Use the search bar to filter by name or code. (4) Click Download PDF to save the list offline.

What is the difference between Sub-district LGD Code and Census 2011 Code?

The Census 2011 code is a static identifier assigned during the Population Census of India, 2011. The LGD (Local Government Directory) code is dynamically maintained by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and gets updated when administrative boundaries change — for example, when a new tehsil is carved out or two sub-districts are merged.

Can I download the Sub-district LGD Code list as a PDF?

Yes. After selecting a state and district, click the 'PDF' button in the table header to download a ready-to-print PDF containing sub-district names, LGD codes, version numbers, and Census 2011 codes. You can also print directly from the browser using the Print button.

How is this data different from the District LGD Code?

A District LGD Code identifies the revenue district (zila), while a Sub-district LGD Code identifies the administrative unit below the district — Tehsil, Taluka, Block, Mandal etc. This page provides sub-district-level codes. For district panchayat codes, visit the Gram Panchayat List page.
